Introduction

On behalf of the members and Board of Directors of Tupelo Community Theatre, thank you for sharing your time and talents with us. Directing a volunteer, amateur production is a time-consuming, often thankless task, and we very much appreciate your willingness to take it on.

This guide is intended to answer questions you may have about the way TCT produces plays, and to provide information that may prove helpful to you in preparing your play for performance. Since no such handbook could ever be complete, the names of contact people are included for you to use in answering other questions you may have. It is the Theatre's intention to give you maximum possible leeway and discretion in producing your play; at the same time, we will gladly provide any assistance you request.

The Production Committee serves as the liaison between the Board and each production. The Committee is charged with reviewing each production's progress, acting as the "eyes and ears" of the Board from the planning phase through set-strike. Production Committee members will check in with you from time to time during the course of rehearsals and are your principal contacts. If you need help or have questions, don't hesitate to call them.

Enclosed is the TCT Performer's Guide. You will be provided with copies of this Guide to distribute to your cast at the first rehearsal. Since as director you are TCT's direct representative to your production, you are expected to enforce all TCT rules and policies. If you need backup or guidance, contact the Production Committee Chairman.

You will be provided with a copy of the budget established by the Board for your play. You are responsible for ensuring that this budget is not exceeded. Again, if you need advice or assistance, contact the Production Committee Chairman.

The Theatre's principle goal in producing plays is to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, from the director and performers to the first-time playgoer. We stand ready to provide all the help you need to reach that goal.

Again, thanks for your willingness to be a part of Tupelo Community Theatre.
